Support to Life: Internationally renowned humanitarian aid organization founded with the principal objective of ensuring access to basic rights and needs for individuals and communities affected by natural or human-made disasters. Founded in 2005 by 5 women academics and humanitarian aid workers, STL carries out activities in Emergency Response, Refugee Support, Child Protection, and Capacity Building in Civil Society, to improve the living conditions of people affected by natural or human-made disasters in Turkey.
STL supports access to basic rights and essential needs; aims to eliminate the risks for children living under dire conditions, gives priority to seasonal agricultural workers; and provides immediate aid services at times of disasters. STL works with the support of a headquarters based in Kadıköy/Istanbul and with field offices located in several provinces in Turkey as well as mobile teams.

Support to Life is seeking a Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Expert. (remote working)
Main Duties and Responsibilities: |
Program Management
- Conceptualize and develop STL’s DRR, Community Led Disaster Response (CL DR) and Climate Change programmatic, operational, and partnership strategies specifically tailored to tackle DRR and climate change challenges,
- Develop relevant contents, frameworks, minimum standards, guidelines, and tools for assessment, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation,
- Ensure adequate tools are in place to track all progress, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned,
- Lead the risk assessment related to DRR and climate change impact, and preparation of action plans,
- Closely monitor and oversee the implementation of the DRR and climate change strategy as a whole in its operation,
- Development of content and tools for relevant training and deliver training for both internal and external audiences,
- Design and deliver information Session Modules targeting field staff with a focus on enhancing the knowledge and understanding of DRR and climate change mitigation techniques among STL's teams in the field,
- Support the dissemination of Information Session Modules targeting communities,
- Provide extensive input and technical support to project proposals ensuring that these initiatives align with the established strategy,
- Provide technical support and guidance to all relevant STL staff,
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, producing documentation for case studies and lessons learned
Institutional Emergency Preparedness
- Lead the process of institutional emergency risk assessments at different levels within the organization in the context of operational preparedness for natural disasters,
- Oversee the process of strategizing and planning the emergency preparedness and implementation of these at both HQ and field level
- Lead the review and revision of the emergency preparedness strategy and plans periodically.
External Relations and Networking
- Ensure successful community-level networking in all DRR and climate change projects,
- Network and ensure functional relationships with relevant governmental and non-governmental agencies, local authorities, NGOs, UN agencies, donors, universities and other key stakeholders,
- Represent STL in relevant coordination mechanisms and platforms,
- Facilitate or participate in workshops, webinars, and meetings as necessary.
- A University degree preferably in Social Science, Disaster Management, Environmental Protection, Climate Change Adaptation, humanitarian assistance, organizational development, or relevant field,
- At least 5 years of experience working as a professional in the Disaster Management Field, particularly in community-led DRR and Community-led Disaster response,
- Experience in program management, preferably in DRR and Climate change fields,
- Experience in community-led approaches in disaster response and preparedness, (such as Survival and Community-Led Response - SCLR)
- Previous experience in institutional emergency preparedness is highly preferred,
- Experience in identifying and establishing institutional capacity-strengthening initiatives,
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and representation skills,
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Turkish.
