Support to Life: Internationally renowned humanitarian aid organization founded with the principal objective of ensuring access to basic rights and needs for individuals and communities affected by natural or human-made disasters. Founded in 2005 by 5 women academics and humanitarian aid workers, STL carries out activities in Emergency Response, Refugee Support, Child Protection and Capacity Building in Civil Society, to improve the living conditions of people affected by natural or human-made disasters in Turkey.

STL supports access to basic rights and essential needs; aims to eliminate the risks for children living under dire conditions giving priority to seasonal agricultural workers; provides immediate aid services at times of disasters. Besides, STL works towards a civil society well-prepared to disasters.

STL works with the support of a headquarter based in Kadıköy/Istanbul and with field offices located in 12 provinces in Turkey (Adana, Adıyaman, Ankara, Batman, Diyarbakır, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Mersin, Şanlıurfa) as well as mobile teams.

Support to Life is looking Child Safeguarding Officer (remote working).

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 Programmatic/Reporting Responsibilities  

  • Supporting the implementation of the Child Safety semi-structured questionnaire.
  • Conducting interviews for Focal Person Supervision (one-to-one, 1-1.5 hour semi-structured interviews with 16 people and taking notes of these interviews)
  • Creating content for Child Safety Academy meetings (Either preparing a monthly child-specific presentation for each meeting at the monthly meetings or organizing the presentation to be made by the academy participants.)
  • Follow-up and evaluation of the reports of the focal persons. If necessary, contact the focal person on a subject-specific basis and establish relevant connections.
  • Paper works of internal and external trainer pool training and capacity building training.
  • Submission of monthly child safeguarding reports to the Child Safeguarding Quality Committee meeting.
  • Developing new modules (preparing a total of 15 presentations in 5 different themes, where each theme differs from beginner-intermediate-advanced level. The presentation needs to cover detailed information in the explanation sections.)
  • Follow-up and Support for the Development of Child Safety Standards of Institutions (needs analysis of institutions and NGOs, following the action plan specific to the institution according to the result, follow-up evaluation survey, organization of the delivery of all documents related to the training to the project team by the trainer ) The position needs to follow up child safeguarding standards of app. 40 NGOs’.
  • Providing Child Safeguarding Training to public institutions and NGOs.
  • Following the road map studies of the training given.
  • Children's committee and Digital Newspaper Follow-up (content creation, data collection from the field, as well as technical and content support, reporting, and filing of activities to be carried out by children's committees.)
  • Producing content for internal capacity meetings of focal persons and internal – external trainers.
  • Providing support for the establishment of children's committees in STL community centers, monitoring, giving feedback, and filing the weekly meeting reports of the committees and the monitoring reports every 6 months.
  • Supporting the execution of the Child Safeguarding Quality Committee: Organization of the Quality Committee meeting, which meets regularly monthly, keeping the notes, filing, and sharing them with the relevant people.

 

Collaborative working Responsibilities

  • Work with relevant colleagues’ under the management of Project Manager.
  • Supporting institution and ngo’s about child safeguarding mechanism.
  • Support the identification of information needs, design of child safeguarding materials.

 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Sociology, Community Development, Law, Human Rights, Humanitarian response
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in NGO especially field of child protection.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Turkish.
  • Significant experience in facilitating trainings and conducting capacity building activities for staff, persons of concern and/or local actors.
  • Team-building skills, able to effectively mobilize, monitor and motivate staff.
  • Proven problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Outgoing with effective communication skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.
